Munster Programming Training

The School of Computer Science and INformation Technology at University College Cork runs a variety of outreach programs aimed at primary and secondary schools from the Munster area, called "Munster Programming Training". The MPT Junior program aims to offer to first and second year students a special training in web programming and web gaming through Minecraft as well as some elements of video production. The MPT Senior targets 3rd and TY year students covering topics like Python programming, as preparation for participation in the "All Irish Schools Programming Competition", and web design and gaming and video production. The MPT Advanced cycles 2-3 focuss on problem solving and advanced algorithms as preparation for the national and international programming competitions. The program will consist of a series of 26 formal and practical lectures that will be delivered by lecturers and researchers from the School on Saturday mornings from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.

The Objectives

By providing this program, we hope to achieve the following:
To give a short and basic introduction to computer programming, web design, scripting and gaming.
To foster interest in computers by encouraging young students to learn about programming at an early age.
To prepare them for programming competitions.
